On a night he set the San Francisco record for strikeouts in a season, Lincecum fell to 17-5 one day after his competition, Brandon Webb, improved to 22-7.
"I thought that was a pretty garbage start for me," Lincecum said.
He gave up six hits and issued five walks in 4 1/3 innings. He was charged with six runs -- two runners scored after Lincecum's exit, thanks to Joe Koshanky's double off reliever Keiichi Yabu.
Will Lincecum make his Sunday start? Or will he be shut down? Manager Bruce Bochy said he'd meet with Lincecum to discuss it, but Lincecum said he has made up his mind. He wants the ball. He doesn't want his season to end with Tuesday's bummer.
He still maintains the Cy Young is not on his mind.
"I'm not pitching for the Cy Young or any award," he said. "I'm pitching for myself. I'm pitching for my team."
What does he think about the strikeout record?
"Not much," he said.
He has 252 K's. Jason Schmidt had the record of 251.
ROCKIES 9, GIANTS 4: The Giants wasted a 3-1 lead, and Tim Lincecum was pulled one out into the fifth inning in one of his worst starts of the season. The Giants had six hits. By comparison, Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki had four and Seth Smith three. The winning pitcher was Ubaldo Jimenez, who was the last pitcher to give up a homer to Barry Bonds.
