"We're going to have to be open-minded," GM Brian Sabean said.
Before Johnson signed for one year and $8 million, Sabean said he was in no way trading one of his starters, but now that may have changed.
Could Jonathan Sanchez be dealt for a hitter?
Even Matt Cain?
Sabean hinted he'd be willing to listen to an offer if it means a huge offensive upgrade. The GM still said he's unwilling to trade for a hitter who's just one year from free agency.
If the Giants trade a starter, they'd likely be more serious about having Noah Lowry (who missed all of 2008 with a bum forearm) join the rotation or promoting Kevin Pucetas from Class A San Jose, where he was named the top pitcher in the California League.
One other possibility: If Lowry is set to open the season, he could open in the rotation and Sanchez could work out of the bullpen.
Either way, Sabean was talking big after inking the Big Unit.
"I think we've got a chance now to make a run at this division," Sabean said.
