Manny is a Dodger. So is Orlando Hudson. Joe Crede is a Twin. Adam Dunn is a National. Pat Burrell is a Ray.

The only newcomer to the Giants' batting order is shortstop Edgar Renteria, meaning Bengie Molina remains the cleanup hitter and the Giants' offense -- last in the National League in homers and RBIs last year -- didn't get the upgrade many fans were anticipating.

On the plus side, the Giants should have Pablo Sandoval for the entire season, but will that make a difference for the only big-league team failing to reach triple digits in homers in 2008?

The hope is for Fred Lewis, who replaced Barry Bonds in left field, Aaron Rowand and Travis Ishikawa (if he's the first baseman) to muscle up and for Renteria and Randy Winn to provide power to the gaps.

"I think it's what everybody expected," managing general partner Bill Neukom said of Ramirez returning to the Dodgers.

All along, the Giants were on the periphery of the Manny talks, ready to swoop in only if the left fielder got fed up with the Dodgers and was eager to go elsewhere.

"We're always looking at ways to improve the club, and we always will be," Neukom said. "The question is how much he could have improved the club and at what cost. If there is a chance to make a deal that makes that kind of sense for us, we'll make it."
