Of course, Tuesday is the day the Giants open the season, hosting the Brewers in a day game.

What gives?

The Giants could have opened Monday along with most every other team, but they chose to add one more spring training exhibition on Sunday -- Giants-Dodgers was the day's lone exhibition -- and preferred to take Monday off and start the season Tuesday.

It could backfire, which would be unfortunate. This is the Brewers' lone trip to San Francisco this year, so a makeup can't be scheduled for their next time in. If Tuesday's game is rained out, it's possible a doubleheader would be scheduled for Wednesday.

Normally, teams like to schedule a day off during a season-opening series to allow for a possible makeup day. The Giants decided against it because there have been so few rainouts in their San Francisco history.

Now the Giants opener is in the hands of Mother Nature.
