Adding Randy Johnson and relievers Jeremy Affeldt and Bobby Howry, they were supposed to have deeper pitching.
Both may be true. It just didn't play out in the opener. Tim Lincecum lasted only three innings, and six relievers were used to finish the job. But it mattered little because the offense erupted for 12 hits, six of which went for extra bases (including three homers).
For one day, there was no hole in the middle of the lineup. The Nos. 3 through 7 hitters combined for nine hits, and Randy Winn, Bengie Molina and Aaron Rowand homered. Rookie Travis Ishikawa hit a three-run triple in the first inning.
"Oh, it saved us today," manager Bruce Bochy said of the offense. "Great job. Had some big hits. We kept grinding today. We got production from everybody. That's important this year."
GIANTS 10, BREWERS 6: The Giants trailed 5-4 before Aaron Rowand's two-run homer in the fourth made it 6-5. Bengie Molina homered in the seventh, and Randy Winn went deep in the eighth. The 12-hit attack offset an off day for Tim Lincecum, the reigning Cy Young Award winner who was pulled after giving up three runs and four hits (three walks) in three innings.
