San Francisco Giants Inside Pitch 2009-05-02

San Francisco Giants Inside Pitch 2009-05-02
Three to go. But Randy Johnson wants more than three more.

The Big Unit won his 297th career game with seven scoreless innings over the Rockies in a 3-2 Giants victory, and he has no plan to stop at 300.

He said after the game that he wants to get to 300 as quickly as possible and continue winning from there.

In other words, his fling with the Giants isn't just about 300.

"I'm not here to win five games and be a big question mark every five days," he said.

Through his seven innings, he gave up four hits and collected nine strikeouts. In fact, he struck out his first five batters -- he had two strikes on his sixth batter, Troy Tulowitzki, who flied out -- and now has 4,819 strikeouts in his career.

Johnson was coming off a seven-walk outing in Arizona. He has pitched better in San Francisco this year -- in consecutive home games, he has thrown seven scoreless innings -- and the Rockies are always a fun opponent. His 19 wins over the Rockies are more than against any other team.

He's 19-7 against Colorado, with wins in his last five starts over the Rockies.

GIANTS 3, ROCKIES 2: The Giants have a winning record for the first time since they were 2-1. They've won nine of 12. They led 3-0, and the Rockies scored twice in the eighth off Bobby Howry and Jeremy Affeldt. Closer Brian Wilson finished the eighth, striking out Ryan Spilborghs with the bags full, and tossed a scoreless ninth for his sixth save.
