Lincecum gave up a first-inning run, but the Giants scored four in the bottom of the first and added a Fred Lewis homer in the second for a 5-1 lead.
Enough for young Timmy?
Hardly.
The bullpen collapsed, costing the Giants in their 8-6 loss. Lincecum left with a 6-3 lead in the seventh, and soon thereafter Merkin Valdez gave up a three-run double to David Wright that tied the score at 6-6.
The Giants lost it in the ninth, and closer Brian Wilson had a second straight meltdown. For the second straight night, he entered in a tie game. Again, he failed to keep it tied.
Thursday, Wilson messed up by failing to keep runners close to the bases -- the Mets stole three bags during a ninth-inning rally.
Friday, Wilson messed up by fielding a bunt and throwing the ball past third base.
The fans, who love Lincecum and cheer his every move, booed Valdez for allowing the Mets to tie it and booed Wilson for allowing the Mets to win it.
METS 8, GIANTS 6: After blowing a 5-1 lead, the Giants were tied with the Mets in the ninth, but the Mets scored twice off closer Brian Wilson. The rally started with singles by Gary Sheffield and David Wright. Wilson picked up Ryan Church's bunt and threw it past third for an error, and Sheffield scored the tie-breaking run. Wright scored on a sacrifice fly by Omir Santos.
