The series began with the Giants two games behind the Rockies in the NL West, but the Rockies won the opener over Matt Cain and a listless offense. The second game was Tuesday, and the Giants were whipped 7-2.
Now the Giants are four back of the third-place Rockies, who aren't at all concerned about the Giants as much as they're aiming for the second-place Dodgers. Colorado is three games behind Los Angeles.
And six behind first-place Arizona.
One game remains in the series -- San Francisco's saving grace is Tim Lincecum is pitching -- and the Giants hit the road for a week and go to Cincinnati and, yes, Colorado.
By then, where will the Rockies be?
ROCKIES 7, GIANTS 2: The Rockies scored four times in the third inning and another in the fifth, and they finished the job with two off Jack Taschner in the seventh. The Giants scored on Randy Winn's RBI double in the second and added an unearned run in the fourth. Ex-Giants farmhand Jason Grilli got his first big-league save.
