San Francisco Giants Notes, Quotes 2009-04-16
--RHP Matt Cain still hasn't beaten the Dodgers. He made his 12th career start Wednesday against the Giants' biggest rivals and pitched well enough to win, giving up two runs in six innings. The winless streak is particularly frustrating considering Cain's 1.09 ERA in his past four starts at Dodger Stadium.

--INF Rich Aurilia drew a fifth-inning walk Wednesday, the first walk for a Giant since LF Fred Lewis drew a free pass last Friday. Over that span, the Giants had 117 plate appearances without a walk. "Moneyball"? What's "Moneyball"? It was the team's longest walkless streak since 1976.

--LHP Randy Johnson struck out his 4,800th career batter, James Loney, in the third inning Monday. Johnson had five strikeouts in the game but lasted only 3 2/3 innings and gave up seven runs and eight hits. The only pitcher with more K's is Nolan Ryan with 5,714. Roger Clemens is third at 4,672.

BY THE NUMBERS: 3 -- Home runs in the season opener for the Giants, who didn't hit another in their next five games.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "That's not going to work. We know that. I think once we get this thing going they'll get a rhythm. ... We're going to need more from our starters." -- Manager Bruce Bochy after each of his five starters pitched once, the rotation combining for a 6.46 ERA.
