--LHP Jonathan Sanchez will make his second start Friday when the Giants return home and play the Diamondbacks. Sanchez is 1-5 with an 8.56 ERA in seven starts against Arizona, including 1-2 with an 8.83 ERA in four starts last year. He had only one quality start.
--Manager Bruce Bochy turned 54 on Thursday. It's his third season with the Giants, and each year the team has opened 2-6. The team's losing streak reached six games on Bochy's birthday. --LHP Randy Johnson struck out his 4,800th career batter, James Loney, in the third inning Monday. Johnson had five strikeouts in the game but lasted only 3 2/3 innings and gave up seven runs and eight hits. The only pitcher with more K's is Nolan Ryan with 5,714. Roger Clemens is third at 4,672.
