--C Bengie Molina was not in the lineup Monday, and 3B-C Pablo Sandoval caught -- a sign Sandoval could become LHP Barry Zito's personal catcher. Sandoval caught five of Zito's last eight starts in 2008, and Zito went 3-0 with a 3.21 ERA with him behind the plate. In his previous start, Zito threw seven scoreless innings with Sandoval catching. In his first two starts, with Molina behind the plate, he had a 10.00 ERA. "I'm not a selfish guy," Molina told the San Francisco Chronicle. "I'm not going to be upset or anything. I came here to play and win. I'm proud of what I do. I don't want to make anybody uncomfortable. If that's what it'll take for 'Z' to pitch well, Sandoval to catch him, I'm up for that."
--RHP Matt Cain was burned again Sunday. He was on target for his third victory, having allowed one run in seven innings in Phoenix. But in the ninth, the Diamondbacks tied it when closer RHP Brian Wilson gave up three runs. Cain is a touch-luck pitcher who last year had a 3.76 ERA, 20th best in the NL. But he was 8-14. He had the second-lowest run support in the majors (3.14 runs per game). --LHP Randy Johnson's seven walks Saturday were his most since July 25, 2000 against St. Louis. His career high is 10. He was pulled after 3 1/3 innings, his quickest hook in two years. "I'm not going to psychoanalyze and dissect everything," said Johnson, who was pitching in the Diamondbacks' park for the first time as an opponent. "I've played this game long enough. I've had a lot of bad games."
