San Francisco Giants Notes, Quotes 2009-05-14
--SS Edgar Renteria and 1B Travis Ishikawa were the only two Giants to get a hit off former Giants farmhand Shairon Martis, who threw seven innings Wednesday and improved to 5-0. At 19, he was traded to the Nationals in July 2006 for reliever LHP Mike Stanton. "It was fun for me. It was my old team, so I kind of gave everything I've got to beat them," Martis said.

--LHP Pat Misch made his 2009 Giants debut Wednesday and gave up two runs in the ninth inning. But he retired 3B Ryan Zimmerman on a fielder's choice grounder, ending Zimmerman's 30-game hit streak. Misch joined the Giants Tuesday, replacing RHP Osiris Matos, who was optioned to Class AAA Fresno. Misch was 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in 22 innings for Fresno.

--LHP Randy Johnson will try for his 299th win on Friday, but it'll be no easy task. The opposing pitcher in San Francisco will be Mets LHP Johan Santana. Johnson has done his best work at home this year, struggling in all three road starts. If he beats the Mets, he'll go for No. 33 in Seattle, where he once pitched.

--RHP Brian Wilson responded to Dodgers 3B Casey Blake, who homered off Wilson in the 12th inning Sunday and after the inning mocked the closer's crossed-arm gesture. Wilson crosses his arms after saves to acknowledge his faith and late father. "I have a pretty good memory," said Wilson when told the Giants and Dodgers don't play again until August. Asked if this could spark the Giants-Dodgers rivalry, Wilson said, "It could be a catalyst if you want to look at it that way. There's always something to fuel the fire. You're always looking for some excuse to get riled up."

Blake responded Tuesday. "Should I have done it? Probably not," said Blake, who wouldn't say he'd apologize.

BY THE NUMBERS: 11.37 -- LHP Randy Johnson's ERA in his first three road starts as a Giant.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Manny's gone for 50 games, time for the Giants to capitalize." -- LHP Barry Zito on Twitter, commenting on Manny Ramirez's 50-game suspension, announced when the Giants were 6 1/2 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West.
