--OF/1B Daniel Ortmeier went on the DL with a broken bone in his left middle finger, and he'll miss up to four weeks. Ortmeier struck out three times against LHP Randy Johnson Thursday. He felt swelling before the game but didn't have X-rays until afterward. He was hitting .219 in limited playing time after losing the starting first-base job, which was given to him in spring training.
--OF Brian Horwitz, 25, was promoted from Class AAA Fresno to replace injured OF-1B Daniel Ortmeier. Horwitz was hitting .294 in 44 games for Fresno. Once again, OF Nate Schierholtz was overlooked. Manager Bruce Bochy said the preference is to let Schierholtz play every day in Class AAA rather than sparingly in the big leagues. Horwitz struck out as a pinch hitter in his big-league debut. --OF Aaron Rowand had X-rays on his sore left hand, having been plunked by Diamondbacks RHP Chad Qualls Thursday. It showed no serious damage, and Rowand was in the lineup Friday. He went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts.
--LHP Noah Lowry was moved from the 15-day to the 60-day DL, and his prognosis is anyone's guess. He's still recovering from forearm surgery.
--INF Rich Aurilia did not play for the second straight game because of a kidney stone. He was in the Giants' clubhouse before the game, still waiting for the stone to pass.
BY THE NUMBERS: 15 -- Doubles for Bengie Molina, through May 25. He had 19 last year. His career high is 24 in 2003.
