San Francisco Giants Notes, Quotes 2008-06-28

--RHP Keiichi Yabu has given up eight consecutive hits over his last three appearances. Seven off the batters who got hits scored. On Friday, Yabu replaced RHP Kevin Correia in the sixth, and the A's welcomed him by taking a lead they didn't give up.

--SS Omar Vizquel, who had plenty of action in the three-game series in Cleveland, where he was honored for his 11 seasons as an Indian, was out of the lineup Friday. Vizquel, 2 for his last 33, was replaced by rookie SS Emmanuel Burriss, who went 1-for-3.

--RHP Kevin Correia pitched five innings and fell to 0-2 since coming off the disabled list June 15. Going back to his pre-DL time, he has failed to win any of his last five starts. He was removed after throwing 103 pitches.

--LF Fred Lewis was back in the lineup after missing two straight starts. He batted leadoff and went 0-for-4, his average slipping to .282.

--RHP Tim Lincecum will pitch Saturday against the A's and face RHP Justin Duchscherer, a fellow All-Star candidate. It's the matchup of the series. Lincecum is 8-1 with a 2.54 ERA, and Duchscherer is 8-4 with a 1.99 ERA. In Lincecum's last two starts, he gave up more than three earned runs for the first two times in 2008. The rest of his starts were quality starts.

BY THE NUMBERS: 54 -- Years since the Giants last won a World Series. They're playing in Cleveland this week for the first time since they swept the Indians in the 1954 World Series.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "It feels terrible to let the team down. That's the hardest part, to go out there and have the guys bust their tail and come in here with a loss." -- Barry Zito, after his home record fell to 0-7 with a 7.34 ERA. The Giants have lost all eight of his home starts.
