--C-INF Pablo Sandoval, who's getting a look at third base -- the biggest hole in the Giants' organization -- made a mistake in the fourth inning while playing third base, ruining a rundown play. The Reds capitalized and scored four runs, turning a 4-4 score to 8-4.
--2B Eugenio Velez tripled and doubled and drove in three runs. INF Emmanuel Burriss, who had been getting most of the action at second, played shortstop Friday for the first time since July 24. The Giants want to look at Burriss and Ivan Ochoa at second. --RHP Kevin Correia, who'll start Saturday in Cincinnati, is coming off his first win in August. He beat the Padres by surrendering three runs in six innings. Despite the lack of wins, his August ERA is a decent 3.64. On the season, it's 5.11.
--LF Fred Lewis was scratched because of a tight quadriceps in his right leg. Dave Roberts played left instead. Lewis got in the game as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning and flied out.
--C Buster Posey, the Giants' first pick in the June draft (fifth overall), was 10-for-23 in his first six games with the Giants' rookie league team in Arizona.
