Giantsportal.com | San Francisco Giants News, giants Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - The Giants scored 10 runs in their opener. Seven runs two days later. Since then, hardly anything -- 18 runs in nine games. Manager Bruce Bochy continues to shake up the lineup, but no configuration was working with any consistency through the first two weeks. Only one team, the Astros, had scored fewer runs. Giants hitters drew the fewest walks in the majors and struck out the third-most times in the NL. Bochy said he'd continue tweaking the lineup if the hitters continue to scuffle.
PLAYER NEWS: --LHP Randy Johnson won his 296th career game Sunday and has faced every big-league team now that the Diamondbacks joined the list. Johnson pitched eight years in Arizona and is the club's career leader in wins (118), complete games (38), shutouts (14), innings (1,630 1/3), strikeouts (2,077) and ERA (2.83).
--RHP Matt Cain, who pitches against San Diego on Tuesday, will try to continue the Giants starters' scoreless streak. In the Arizona series, LHP Jonathan Sanchez, RHP Tim Lincecum and LHP Randy Johnson combined for 27 1/3 scoreless innings. Cain has given up three runs in 13 innings in two starts. The Padres' starter: RHP Jake Peavy.
--C Bengie Molina has caught every inning of every game. The Giants don't have a backup catcher other than 3B Pablo Sandoval, and Molina said he can continue to carry the load through the end of April because of three more off days, including Monday. "I can handle it," he said. But beginning May 1, the Giants play 17 games in 17 days, and Molina will need some help behind the plate.
MEDICAL WATCH:
RHP Joe Martinez (concussion, hairline fractures in skull) went on the 15-day disabled list April 10. He is unlikely to return before late May.
LHP Noah Lowry (left forearm surgery in March 2008, left elbow surgery in September 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. In mid-April, manager Bruce Bochy said he hoped Lowry would able to return at some point this season.
