--SS Brandon Crawford, who was hitting .374 with six homers and 17 RBIs, was promoted to Class AA Connecticut from Class A San Jose.

--LHP Barry Zito, still looking for his first win despite three consecutive solid starts, will pitch Friday's opener at Dodger Stadium -- without having to face Dodgers LF Manny Ramirez, who was suspended 50 games for testing positive for a banned drug. Zito is 0-2 with a 3.99 ERA. In 20 1/3 innings in his last three starts, he has allowed three earned runs.

--3B Pablo Sandoval, playing third base for the first long stretch of his pro career, made a couple of solid defensive plays late in Thursday's game. The most impressive: He backhanded SS Troy Tulowitzki's grounder while sliding on his knees and threw him out from several feet behind the bag, with one foot in fair territory and one foot foul.

OF Andres Torres (strained left hamstring) went on the 15-day disabled list April 28.

RHP Joe Martinez (concussion, hairline fractures in skull) went on the 15-day disabled list April 10. He is unlikely to return before late May.

RHP Sergio Romo (sprained right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He won't be able to pitch before mid-May.

LHP Noah Lowry (left forearm surgery in March 2008, left elbow surgery in September 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. In mid-April, manager Bruce Bochy said he hoped Lowry would able to return at some point this season.
