--2B Emmanuel Burriss is the new leadoff hitter, and LF Fred Lewis was dropped to seventh. Burriss hit .407 over 15 games and leads the team with eight steals. Lewis had a quick start to the season but began struggling once he replaced RF Randy Winn at leadoff. Manager Bruce Bochy told Burriss not to change his approach, as Lewis seemed to do once he was moved to leadoff.
--LF Fred Lewis, who was dropped to seventh in the lineup, hit a routine fly to left field that was botched by LF Josh Willingham, who never touched the ball. It should have been the third out. Instead, two runs scored on the play (no RBI because it was an error on Willingham), and the Giants went on to score five unearned runs in the inning. At one point in the rally, they walked five straight times, three times with the bases loaded. --RHP Osiris Matos got his first big-league at-bat, first big-league hit and first big-league RBI. It all happened in the eighth inning, and his RBI gave the Giants their season-high 11th run. Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, he gave up a three-run homer in the ninth to 3B Ryan Zimmerman.
MEDICAL WATCH:
OF Andres Torres (strained left hamstring) went on the 15-day disabled list April 28.
RHP Joe Martinez (concussion, hairline fractures in skull) went on the 15-day disabled list April 10. He is unlikely to return before late May.
RHP Sergio Romo (sprained right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He won't be able to pitch before mid-May.
LHP Noah Lowry (left forearm surgery in March 2008, left elbow surgery in September 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. In mid-April, manager Bruce Bochy said he hoped Lowry would able to return at some point this season.
