--LF Fred Lewis was out of the lineup again with turf toe, but he hit a pinch RBI double in the ninth. Manager Bruce Bochy said he expects Lewis to return to the lineup Thursday. In Lewis' absence, Nate Schierholtz was added to the outfield mix, in right. Randy Winn played left.
--C Bengie Molina was out of the lineup for the fifth consecutive start by LHP Barry Zito. C Steve Holm got the assignment instead. Manager Bruce Bochy said he would have started 3B Pablo Sandoval behind the plate, but Sandoval's left ankle was still hurting after he took a fall on the bases Tuesday. Zito's numbers have been better with Sandoval or Holm catching as opposed to Molina. Zito said he anticipates Molina will catch him in his next start, Tuesday in San Diego, which follows an off day. --2B Emmanuel Burriss was 0-for-3 and is 1-for-13 since manager Bruce Bochy made him the leadoff hitter Monday. Burriss' average fell from .287 to .263. However, he drew a walk in each of his three games as the No. 1 hitter. He replaced LF Fred Lewis, who struggled in the leadoff spot.
MEDICAL WATCH:
LF Fred Lewis (sore left toe) didn't play May 12. He appeared as a pinch hitter May 13, and he is expected to start May 14.
OF Andres Torres (strained left hamstring) went on the 15-day disabled list April 28.
RHP Joe Martinez (concussion, hairline fractures in skull) went on the 15-day disabled list April 10. He is unlikely to return before late May.
RHP Sergio Romo (sprained right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He was pitching in extended spring training in early May, and he might begin a rehab assignment in mid-May.
LHP Noah Lowry (left forearm surgery in March 2008, left elbow surgery in September 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. In mid-April, manager Bruce Bochy said he hoped Lowry would able to return at some point this season.
