--INF Kevin Frandsen was recalled from Class AAA Fresno to replace INF Juan Uribe, who was placed on the bereavement list with a family issue. Frandsen had a solid spring training but lost the battle at second base to Emmanuel Burriss. Frandsen hit .291 with three homers and 17 RBIs in 34 games at Fresno. Sunday, he started at short and went 0-for-4.
--SS Edgar Renteria, shelved with a hamstring strain, said he doesn't feel pain in the leg. He's still not expected to return to the lineup until Friday in Seattle. In San Diego, where the Giants play their next three games, beginning Tuesday, he could pinch-hit. MEDICAL WATCH:
1B Rich Aurilia (mild hamstring strain) was scratched from the lineup May 16., but he appeared as a pinch hitter. He didn't play May 17.
SS Edgar Renteria (tight right hamstring) left the May 14 game and did not play May 15-17. He was not placed on the disabled list, and the Giants hope he will available to pinch-hit by May 19 and can be in the lineup again by May 22.
OF Andres Torres (strained left hamstring) went on the 15-day disabled list April 28. He began a rehab assignment with Class A San Jose on May 15.
RHP Joe Martinez (concussion, hairline fractures in skull) went on the 15-day disabled list April 10. He is unlikely to return before late May.
RHP Sergio Romo (sprained right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He was pitching in extended spring training in early May, and he began a rehab assignment with Class A San Jose on May 14.
LHP Noah Lowry (left forearm surgery in March 2008, left elbow surgery in September 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. In mid-April, manager Bruce Bochy said he hoped Lowry would able to return at some point this season.
