The Freak and the Greink(e)
Apr. 30, 2009 (Baseball Musings delivered by Newstex ) --

Zack Greinke and Tim Lincecum faced major challenges last night as they opposed the teams ranked third in their league in runs per game. Zack showed he was human, allowing two runs over seven innings, ending his unearned run streak. He stuck out eight and walked two, and still has not allowed a home run. The Royals offense came alive and supported him with eleven runs, leading to an easy 11-3 victory. Greinke goes to 5-0 and ends April with a 0.50 ERA.

Tim Lincecum took on the high-scoring Dodgers, and shut them down as well. He was a bit more efficient than his last outing, pitching seven innings and four batters into the eighth, using just 103 pitches. A broken bat double by Orland Hudson made the difference of this being a good outing vs. a great outing for Tim, as he was pitching a shutout to that point. He struck out eight and walked three, and his pitches showed great late movement.

Like the Royals , the normally low scoring Giants provided plenty of support as they scored nine runs. Bengie Molina homered and tripled, although the triple was costly. Pablo Sandoval was on first, and as he hustled to score the run, came up lame and was taken out of the game. The Giants take home a 9-4 win, reach the .500 mark and trail the Dodgers by three games.
